http://www.bowlluckystrike.comLocated on Chestnut Street, a block from City Hall, Lucky Strikes calls itself “America’s first true bowling lounge.” Entering the establishment, it is evident that it is not your typical bowling alley. The chain had its start in Hollywood, and the glitzy influence can definitely be seen. Large video screens at the end of each black-lit lane project images from up-and-coming artists in a variety of media, including painting, photography, illustration, film, and video. Behind the lanes are comfortable couches and sitting areas, as well as a bar with multiple plasma televisions letting you keep up on your local sports. The food also is not your usual alley fare. The full-course menu was created by L.A.’s foremost catering company “Along Came Mary,” and includes such items as “Tomato and Cheese S’Mores, “Chicago Style Salad,” “Thai Pizza,” and “Chocolate Insanity.” Waitresses will happily deliver your meal to anywhere in the building. Overall, Lucky Strikes is not simply a place to bowl, but a place to hang out, grab a bite to eat, or have a drink. Keep in mind, however, that in order to keep its “hip” appearance, Lucky Strikes does enforce a dress code. Sweats, sports jerseys, sleeveless shirts, or excessively baggy clothing are not permitted. If you choose to bowl, rates are $4.95 to $5.95 per person to play a game, and $45 to $65 to rent a lane by the hour. After 9pm, guests below the age of 21 are not permitted.
